Create Rochdale, in partnership with M6 Theatre Company, are delighted to announce a programme of free cultural education CPD events for the 2025-2026 academic year. Oracy, Communication and Creativity
Wed 22 October, 1pm – 4pm at M6 Studio Theatre (lunch provided)
In this session we will explore how arts and creativity can support pupil’s oracy and communication. There will be presentations from First Story, M6 Theatre Company and Falinge Park High School which will include inspiring case studies and local opportunities for schools and young writers. Rochdale’s first Poet Laureate Sammy Weaver will then deliver a practical workshop full of creative writing ideas to take back to school. Lunch will be provided and there will be opportunities for networking and discussion.
AI, Creativity and Education
November, Date and Location TBC
AI is already changing how some artists work and raising questions about creativity, authenticity and intellectual property. In this session we will explore how cultural education could and should incorporate AI and how we prepare young creatives for the future, in a rapidly changing world. Presenters include Falinge Park High School and Altus Education Partnership, with more to be announced.
Young People, Film and Media
January, Date and Location TBC
Rochdale is increasingly being used as a location for film, TV and other productions. In this session we’ll be joined by Rochdale Film Office, Rochdale Development Agency, M6 Theatre Company and Breaking Barriers to hear all about opportunities for young people to get involved with film and how film making can support schools’ agendas. A practical workshop with local film maker Andy Hirst will explore tips and inspiration for delivering your own film projects with young people in schools or other youth settings.
Trauma Informed Practice in Arts and Culture
April, Date and Location TBC
There is increasing evidence that arts and creativity can support young people’s mental wellbeing and provide an outlet for expression. Taking a trauma informed approach to engagement can support more young people to access opportunities and maintain engagement. This session aims to equip teachers, artists and other cultural education professionals with an understanding of how early childhood experiences can influence a person’s behaviour, relationships and wellbeing later in life.
Creativity and Nature
June, Date and Location TBC
Join us to explore how art can connect children with nature and encourage sustainable living. There will be presentations about inspiring projects, artists and events as well as practical activities that can be delivered in schools and outdoor spaces.
